South Boston Christmas Open House
It’s almost here! The annual South Boston Christmas Open House is Sunday, November 21, 2021 from 1-5pm and there’s plenty of fun planned for all ages. Browse the festive holiday shops along the street but don’t worry about your feet hurting – just stop in McCollum Ferrell and get your comfy Hey Dudes, Birkenstocks, and plenty of other stylish and comfortable options. Then you’ll be set to go! Santa is at The Busy Bean from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Have your pictures taken and printed on the spot! And enjoy a free hot chocolate compliments of Rogers Heating and Cooling. Then head over to Wister’s Florals & Gifts where children can leave a letter for Santa with Ivy, their store mascot. Ivy will whisk the letters off to Santa where he will write a personalized response for children to receive in the mail! Botanical Gardens Receive $1,000 for Upgrades
South Boston Town Council unanimously agreed to give the Southern Virginia Botanical Gardens $1,000 to help secure current fencing around the Healthy Harvest Community Garden at Edmunds Park. Welcome Rory Feek to Downtown South Boston
Get ready for a great time in Downtown South Boston! Country artist, filmmaker, author and farmer Rory Feek will appear at The Prizery’s Chastain Theater at 7pm on Friday, October 22, 2021. Downtown South Boston designated a 2021 accredited Main Street America Community. Destination Downtown South Boston is a recognized leading program among the national network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities. They share both a commitment to creating high-quality places and to building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development. All Main Street America™ Accredited programs meet a set of National Accreditation Standards of Performance as outlined by Main Street America. Accreditation required high standards and measurable key indicators of performance. According to the requirements, “ This is a very high distinction! “Main Street communities are part of a national movement with a proven track record for celebrating community character, preserving local history, and generating impressive economic returns,” according to Main Street America. Much work and creativity have gone into bringing Downtown South Boston to this point. The tireless work and creativity of our downtown merchants, property owners, and so many others have created a growing, thriving community where people live, shop, and socialize. We are honored to receive this accreditation and are proud of all of our Downtown South Boston merchants and property owners for helping to make our community such a great place to live, work, and grow!
Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday held during the Saturday after Thanksgiving in the United States during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. It is always the last one in November, so it falls between November 24 and November 30. Small Business Saturday is November 27, 2021 this year. As a consumer, you’re a key part in helping small businesses thrive. By shopping or dining at small businesses throughout the year, you show your support for the businesses in your neighborhood and in the community. How can you celebrate this important day for our locally owned Downtown South Boston businesses and merchants? It’s easy and it’s fun: Buy something from a local business or several local businesses. 2. Post about small businesses on social media using the hashtag #SmallBusinessSaturday. 3. Like and Follow their Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter pages. 4. Comment on their Facebook posts to increase their visibility in the community. 5.
