South Boston Public Works – Maintenance Worker Position (3 positions open)

Maintenance Worker Performs basic manual work in the maintenance of streets and facilities throughout the Town. Examples of work include: repairs asphalt roadways, concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, cleans storm drain structures; mows, sweeps, shovels, assists in traffic control and set–up for special events and parades. This is heavy work often requiring exertion in excess of 100 pounds, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting. This position is primarily working Monday – Friday 7am–3:30 pm. Salary $26,000 – $33,280 depending on experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a Class A or Class B CDL High School diploma or GED is required. A valid Virginia commercial driver’s license, or ability to obtain one, within six months of hire date is required.

South Boston Police Department – Patrol Officer I & Senior Patrol Officer Position (3 positions open)

Salary is based on qualifications and experience. A starting salary of $45,000 for applicants without Virginia Law Enforcement certification. Applicants must be 21 years of age. Certified Virginia law enforcement officers may receive a starting salary of $46,000 or more depending upon experience (along with a sign on bonus of $5,000). Educational pay incentives are offered as well for individuals hired with an associate, bachelors, or master’s degree. 12–hour shift work.

South Boston Fire Department–Firefighter I & EMT–B Position (3 positions open)

A starting salary of $41,000 for qualified applicants with a $2,000 sign on bonus. The position is full time, working a shift of 24 hours on and 48 hours off. Applicants must be 18 years or older with a valid HSD or GED, VA drivers license, and a clean driving record. Firefighter 1 and EMT–B certifications are required.
